Orleans Complex Fire Closes Roads

ORLEANS – An update to the Orleans Complex fires that continue to challenge emergency crews. The 8 fires have now burned nearly 4,000 acres and are 7% contained. With thunderstorms predicted through Monday, officials are looking at the possibility of gusty and erratic winds to increase fire behavior.

The largest fire, the Ukonom, has causes a closure of Independence Creek Road from the intersection of the eastern edge of the Klamath River and extending east to Kings Ridge Road. This closure will continue until the Ukonom Fire is declared out.

The lightning started blaze began the morning of July 25 and currently has 731 firefighters on scene including Yurok and Karuk Tribal personnel.
