RIO DELL – Rio Dell has adopted restrictions on personal cannabis cultivation.

Residents will be allowed to cultivate six plants but they must be grown in a detached building and not a greenhouse. According to the staff report this will reduce fire risk and damage associated with indoor marijuana grows.

Annual permits, inspections and a $75 fee will also be required.

That ordinance will take effect in thirty days.

And council heard the first reading of a prohibition on sales, but not delivery, of recreational cannabis.

California voters approved the Adult Use Of Marijuana Act last November. That meant cities had to pass laws regulating sales and cultivation or fall under the state’s guidelines beginning in January.

The ordinance is likely to be adopted at the next council meeting and will take effect thirty days later.
