Officials are saying the blaze has become the number one priority fire in the nation due to the populations that are at risk. The Curry County Sheriff’s Department confirms 7 homes have already been lost. The fire has burned nearly 100,000 acres 5-miles northeast of Brookings. Officials are hoping to have it contained by mid-October.

A Red Cross shelter has been set up at Riley Elementary School in Gold Beach.
