Humboldt Coast Guard members deployed to aid in Hurricane Harvey relief efforts

EUREKA – Humboldt Bay Coast Guard members are on route to provide assistance and relief following destruction in Texas from Hurricane Harvey.

The California Coast Guard directed air crew members and maintenance personnel from Coast Guard Air Stations Humboldt Bay, San Francisco and San Diego to deploy as of Monday, to aid in search and rescue efforts.

They’ve also sent along 3,000 pounds of search and rescue equipment, including pollution response gear and medical supplies.

The Humboldt Coast Guard crews will serve alongside thousands of first responders coming from all across the country trying to save lives and minimize tragedy.

Hurricane Harvey’s record breaking rainfall continues to come down, displacing thousands of Texan families.

Due to the highly populated and urbanized areas that have been hit, some statistics estimate that Hurricane Harvey could be the most costly natural disaster in U.S. history.
