Kobak pleads not guilty to murder of Frederick Loftus

EUREKA – Tuesday at the Humboldt County Courthouse, David Alan Kobak pled not guilty to charges of murder.

The 75-year-old is accused of shooting and killing Frederick William Loftus Friday, August 25 at their shared apartment on 7th Street in Eureka. 

In addition to the murder charge, Kobak faces a special allegation that he used a firearm and more specifically a rifle to commit the crime. 

At arraignment, Kobak pled not guilty and denied the special allegation.

The Deputy District Attorney requested bail be set at $2 million, and Judge Watson approved.

Kobak will appear in court again on September 7 with a preliminary hearing set for September 11.
