ARCATA- Humboldt State athletics is in the red and the deficit continues to grow each and every year. Right now, the total stands at $900,000.

Interim athletic director Duncan Robbins was brought in to balance the budget. One sport in jeopardy is football. According to the athletic department, it’s a program that costs one-million dollars to run annually.

It’s a tall order but with the support of the community, Duncan hopes to raise $500,000 with the rest of the funding coming from the state.

Robbins said he will send his recommendations to HSU President Lisa Rossbacher who will make the final decision on athletics in mid November.
