Armed Eureka robber sentenced to seven years in state prison

EUREKA – A man admits to pointing a gun at another man during a Eureka robbery, and is sentenced to seven years behind bars.

Just over a month ago on August 10, 25-year-old Anthony Manuel Burgess was taking part in a marijuana deal in Hammond Park, when he put a gun to the sellers head and demanded the marijuana.

He was accompanied by 25-year-old Riordan Eugene Cockrum and after the robbery, the two men fled on foot.

Police caught Cockrum and took him to the Humboldt County Jail, but Burgess wasn’t found for another 17 days.

CHP arrested him on the August 27, after he fled on foot from a traffic stop.

Burgess was sentenced on Monday to seven years in state prison after pleading guilty to using a firearm during the robbery.

He is a known member of the Sureño gang, who refer to him by the name “Creeper”.
