ARCATA – The City of Arcata is taking a stance on protecting coastal resources from offshore drilling and fracking.

This week the city council adopted a new resolution which states the cities support for protecting the California Coast against any offshore drilling. City manager, Karen Diemer, says the request is being made up and down the state of California to recognize in a changing political world there are going to be additional stresses coming forward such as talk of exploration for offshore drilling and fracking.

Now even though the city of Arcata doesn’t actually own any coastal land and this resolution doesn’t create any new laws or regulations for developers here, Diemer says this is the city’s way of showing support that we want to continue to protect our coastal resources.
