Coast Seafoods permit approved with negotiations

HUMBOLDT BAY – Coast Seafoods will continue their operations on a slightly smaller scale in Humboldt Bay.

The company is the largest shellfish producer in California and their future was uncertain up until Wednesday, when a new permit was approved through negotiations.

Originally, the seafood producer wanted to almost double their 300 acre production, but environmental concerns kept this from happening.

Instead, the permit that extends to 2025 will reduce Coast Seafood’s scope in the bay by 21 acres and will relocate another 42 acres closer to Bird Island and Mad River.
