Community members turn out to oppose Rob Arkley’s proposed purchase of Indian Island

EUREKA – Community members gathered in opposition to Rob Arkley’s proposed purchase of Indian Island.
Drivers honked their horns in support as they passed by Security National in Eureka which is owned by Rob Arkley.
Some held signs reading ‘Protect Tulawat from Arkley’, ‘Restore Balance’, and ‘I Am Tulawat’.
The issue arose when Arkley appeared on a local radio broadcast and stated his intention to purchase the island from the city rather than it being returned to the tribe.
Eureka Council and the Wiyot agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding that reiterated the city’s commitment to restoring the island known as Tulawat to the tribe.
Tribal Chairman Ted Hernandez described Tuesday’s actions as a chance for healing.
