Fortuna could require background checks, fees for growing cannabis

FORTUNA – The city of Fortuna is considering tightening restrictions on their cannabis ordinance.

At a special meeting Monday afternoon, city council expressed desire to prohibit all commercial cannabis activities.

Some ideas that could be added to their Medical and Adult Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act included requiring personal growers to obtain permits from the Fortuna Police Department.

To get one, the resident might have to pay a one hundred dollar fee and pass a background check.

Council aims to have the draft finished and approved by December, before state laws come in to effect.
