Celebrating International Day of Peace with Redwood Coast Montessori

MANILA – Redwood Coast Montessori in Manila celebrated the United Nations International Day of Peace.
Students began their day long celebration of peace with a parade around the track, carrying a dove made of cloth and a world flag with the word “peace” in many languages.
The classes sang and waved banners as they came together to learn more about peace.
Staff member Terri Vroman Little used the work needed to repair the dove as a metaphor for what it takes to achieve peace. She said it had to be stitched together with help from everyone and came out stronger in the end.
As the celebration moved inside, a few students shared what peace means to them.
8-year-old Carlo said, “Peace means to me, being kind to your friends and being respectful.”
“It shouldn’t be one day that we’re celebrating peace. It should be everyday,” said 8-year-old Dom.
13-year-old Luan added, “It’s less like the images of peace signs and more just being around people you love and people who love you and you guys just get to be who you are.”
