EUREKA – Community members meet to discuss neighborhood watch programs and how newly enacted state laws are impacting community safety.

New laws such as California propositions 47 and 57 impact the placement of criminals throughout the state. Over 100 community members gathered last night at Cutten School to share concerns on how these new laws could impact community safety. Many concerns expressed regarded transients, needles on the streets, and opposition to making the area a ‘safe haven’ for drug users. Officials are promoting neighborhood watch programs to help community members feel safe. District supervisor, Rex Bohn, says such programs are an old system that can still work well.

Last night the Humboldt County Neighborhood Watch Coordinator set up meetings with members interested in starting a watch programs in their neighborhoods.
