ARCATA – Over 40 volunteers came out today to help clean up Arcata’s newest park for Public Lands Day.

Carlson Park became a part of the Arcata city on July 1st and today the Volunteer Trail Stewards of the Humboldt Trails Council spent the day clearing a new trail with access to Mad River, as well as removing trash and invasive plants. The program has monthly work days where they meet to help clean up local parks and trails. Program coordinator, Rees Hughes, says they are here today to help make Carlson Park look more like an actual park.

Hughes says the trail is now accessible and there are future plans to install a playground in the park as well. If you would like to get involved just check out Humboldt Trails Council on Facebook.
