Kneeland girl in critical condition after water rescue

REDDING- A three year-old Kneeland girl remains in critical condition after she was found in 70 feet of water at Shasta Lake.

Mark Benzinger and his family were staying with friends on a houseboat at the Bridge Bay Marina when the girl went missing Saturday evening.

Benzinger dived into the water and located his daughter at the bottom of the lake. She was taken to a Redding hospital and then transported to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s office said adults and children were not required to wear life jackets on the houseboat where the incident occurred.
