Trinidad City Council takes steps towards banning commercial cannabis

TRINIDAD – Trinidad City Council is one step closer to finalizing a cannabis ordinance, and decisions on the fate of the city’s Memorial Lighthouse could be soon to come.

At their meeting Wednesday, council discussed their draft cannabis ordinance, and they’re looking to Blue Lake’s draft as a model.

The council feels confident they want to prohibit commercial cannabis activities – but one of their main hurdles in doing so is overcoming enforcement shortages.

City Manager Dan Berman, with help from Mayor Dwight Miller, are now tasked with reaching out to Blue Lake to find out how they approach this problem.

They’re scheduled to have a draft ready to read by their meeting on October 11th.

As for the Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse, the Trinidad Civic Club president came to the podium to give an update.

Due to unstable conditions the lighthouse is at risk, and moving the lighthouse is the club’s preference.

They say their goal is to have an emergency permit proposed within two to three weeks, which would include more details on that move.

A fundraiser has been started to cover costs of such a move, which is estimated upwards of $100,000: https://www.gofundme.com/save-trinidad-memorial-lighthouse
