EUREKA – One Humboldt County resident is finding ways to help the victims of hurricane Maria, which hit while she was living in Puerto Rico.

Danielle McDeavitt was living in the Rio Grande running an Air B&B when Maria hit Puerto Rico and says they didn’t have much time to prepare before the storm hit.

She says it sounded like a freight train and lasted for about 10 hours.  When they were finally able to go outside she said and all the vegetation around them had been stripped by the 155 mph winds.

Even though everything around them had been destroyed Danielle says that community never lost hope.

Danielle is hosting a fundraiser to help raise money that will be going directly to help those in the community she was living in. She says one of the reasons she left was because she thought she could provide more assistance from here.

100% of the proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the victims of hurricane Maria. The event will be on October 13th at the historic eagle house in eureka. If you would like to donate items you can take them to the historic eagle house on second and C street.
