Eureka woman sentenced after robbing a store with a knife

EUREKA – A Eureka woman is pleading guilty after robbing a store at knifepoint.

In July, 41 year old Barbara Jones threatened an employee in a clothing shop in Old Town Eureka then with a knife and fled the scene with merchandise from the store. The employee notified the Eureka Police Department and Jones was arrested and taken into custody.

Her theft of the store’s merchandise would have been a misdemeanor; however, use of force or fear in taking property is a felony that can lead to a prison sentence of 2 to 5 years. Her use of a knife can also lengthen the sentence. After recently pleading guilty, Jones is now sentenced to 7 years in prison.
