More than a jack o’lantern… Eureka man’s elaborate pumpkin carvings featured on Food Network

EUREKA – Halloween is right around the corner, and one local artist’s scary creations are being featured this month on Food Network.
Mike Craghead has been carving pumpkins for decades and just made his national debut on the seventh season of Halloween Wars Sunday night. The Food Network show teams a pumpkin carver with a sugar and cake artist to create edible displays. After five episodes, the winning team will walk away with $50,000.
Craghead said he’s gotten a lot of attention on Twitter and other social media since the premiere.
Mostly he’s excited to be a part of a show that he’s been a fan of for years.
Craghead said, “As a pumpkin carver if you see that show you’re an absolute fan from the get go because these people are just nuts. Some of the weirdest things ever happen on that show.”
You can catch Halloween Wars Sunday nights on Food Network.
For a closer look, you can see his work in person at Black Lightning Motorcycle Cafe Saturday night during Arts Alive.
