Highway 299 to open to 24 hour one-way controlled traffic

TRINITY COUNTY – Following the destructive Helena Fire, emergency crews have been at work cleaning up the aftermath on Highway 299.

Although there is still much work left to do, the route will finally be open to one way controlled traffic 24 hours a day starting Saturday.

The opening starts Saturday at 8PM and will continue until further notice.

If you do decide to take the five mile stretch between Helena and Junction City, you can still expect delays.

On top of controlling the one way flow, Caltrans workers will be out there removing hazardous trees and rocks and replacing damaged guardrails.

They’re asking drivers to be patient and know that delays could still be up to 30 minutes or an hour.

The Helena Fire has blazed over 21,000 acres, destroyed over 70 homes, and remains 85% contained.
