Eureka Planning Commission to consider cannabis extraction permit

EUREKA – Eureka’s Planning Commission will hold a special meeting to consider permitting a volatile cannabis manufacturing within city limits.
Volatile manufacturing uses solvents like butane to extract oils from cannabis.
The owners of 60 West 4th Street have applied for a permit on behalf of future tenants who may want to operate such a facility.
According to the staff report, if the permit is approved, the owners would likely offer up to three different manufacturing sites. The report points out that gases used in the process will be stored in secure tanks and fire suppression equipment will be installed to reduce risk if an accident occurs.
Humboldt Bay Fire has inspected plans for compliance with state fire codes and the Eureka Police Department has said it meets their security standards for cannabis-related businesses.
The meeting begins Monday at 5:30 at Eureka City Hall in Council Chambers.
