Attorney to go to trial after courthouse security finds a gun in his briefcase

EUREKA – An attorney who brought a loaded handgun into the Humboldt County Courthouse has his trial date set.

Andrew Joseph Stunich of Eureka says he forgot the .32-caliber handgun was in the side of his briefcase when it was found while going through security.

He received two misdemeanor charges for carrying a loaded firearm in a city and bringing a firearm into a public building.

Stunich says he is licensed to the carry the gun.

His trial will take place in February.
