Rio Dell, Ca., (KIEM)- There’s a great horned owl, with feathers made from reclaimed metals perched on a burnt tree platform on Wildwood Avenue in Rio Dell. Welded into being by local sculptor Dan McCauley, the piece is the first of four the city expects to see installed in the next year. McCauley has plans for a grizzly bear, mountain lion and bull elk to join the raptor on the thoroughfare. The art pieces will go up as part of a five year agreement to spruce up the drive along Wildwood Avenue.

According to City Manager Kyle Knopp, “”The art program was made possible by generous donations from Pacific Gas & Electric, The Headwaters Fund, McClain Foundation and local Rio Dell business Root 101 Nursery.”

The sculptures will rotate periodically throughout the next five years, and will be up for sale throughout that time.
