Most victims of Northern California fires elderly

NAPA, SONOMA, MENDOCINO, YUBA, BUTTE, LAKE COUNTIES – With the help of thousands of fire and emergency personnel, several of the blazes in the devastating Northern California fires are now contained – but the reconstruction of lives has just begun.

42 people died in the fires in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Yuba, Butte, and Lake Counties, that started about two and a half weeks ago.

Most of these victims were seniors who couldn’t flee their homes in time, including 100-year-old World War II veteran, Charles Rippey, and his 98-year-old wife.

The wine country fires took down at least 8,000 buildings, many of those homes.

The damage done is estimated at three billion dollars.
