McKinleyville Wastewater Treatment Plant celebrates grand opening

McKINLEYVILLE – It took $15 million and nine years of work, and now the McKinleyville Wastewater Treatment Plant is up and running.
McKinleyville Community Services District took on the project after more stringent requirements for wastewater treatment were mandated by the Regional Water Quality Control Board.
The district’s customers approved a rate hike to fund most of the work and a low interest loan covered the rest.
The new plant is more efficient and should limit seasonal odor issues that plagued nearby residents.
District representatives called this a seminal moment for McKinleyville and thanked the community for its support.
