Rehab of Eureka’s Budget Motel underway

EUREKA – Work is underway to give new life to an old Eureka motel.
The Budget Motel on 4th Street was shuttered last September when city and county officials found close to 350 health and safety code violations.
Owners of the Broadway Motel purchased the building and crews are working on exploratory demolition.
That work will determine what it will take to address unsafe conditions that range from structural damage including holes in the ceiling and floors to health concerns like exposed wiring and missing plumbing.
Eureka Public Works officials said the owners intend a complete rehab of the building and will re-open it as a motel when the work is finished.
No timetable was given for when that will be.
