Deputy, store clerks injured after confronting two juvenile robbery suspects

McKINLEYVILLE – Grocery store clerks and a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy were injured after confronting two 17-year-olds trying to steal beer in McKinleyville.
Employees at Ray’s Supermarket on Central Avenue approached the two male juveniles around 6:30 Thursday morning. The pair attacked the clerks then fled on foot as deputies responded.
They were located a half mile away on School Road.
When deputies attempted to contact them, one became violent and a Taser was deployed. That had little effect and a physical struggle ensued.
After some time the male was subdued and taken in to custody. He was charged with robbery, resisting arrest and battery on a peace officer.
The other non-combative teen was charged with robbery. Both were booked in to Juvenile Hall.
One deputy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries then released. The clerks were treated for minor abrasions.
Arcata Police and CHP assisted with the response.
