ARCATA – Women from the community gathered together on Friday to recognize the many women who have served their county at the 9th annual Honoring Women Veterans Program.

For many of the women  this is the only time they recognize their service. Director of the Eureka Veterans Center, Deborah Reeves says it’s common for women not to acknowledge their service after they leave military.

Right now about 17% of veterans in the United States are women and by the year 2025 that number will raise to about 25%. With a growing population many of the women here say events like these are even more important to help empower women to be proud of their service.

The lunch event today included a raffle drawing as well as massages and aroma touch hand treatments.
