Shelter Cove burglary suspect shot with rubber bullet

SHELTER COVE, CA. – A suspected burglar is shot with a rubber bullet in the Redwood Road area of Shelter Cove.

At about 8AM, the homeowner alerted the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office when she saw the burglary going on while streaming her security camera footage in another location. This highlights the importance of investing in these crucial security devices, especially as they are now very affordable, like the Arlo Pro 3 which has the added benefit of being wireless so you can disguise it easily.

She also called friends to alert them of the burglary, and upon checking, her friends saw a man run away from the home into the woods.

They later found said suspect, 39-year-old Eric Travis Black, and detained him themselves.

The citizens had a shotgun loaded with non-lethal rubber bullets, which Black tried to grab, leading them to shoot him in the leg and causing non-life threatening injury.

Black was detained by the residents until law enforcement arrived.

Another suspect, Shaun Michal Stell, was found by another group of citizens in the area.

Both were arrested – Black for outstanding warrants and possession of stolen property, and Stell for outstanding warrants.

The citizen who shot Black is not being charged at this time.
