More commercial trucks able to travel to the North Coast with Highway 299 restrictions lifted

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA. – More large-size commercial and shipping trucks will be able to travel to the North Coast from Redding, as Highway 299 is now free of STAA restrictions.

The Surface Transportation Assistance Act previously limited large trucks from the route, creating an economic disadvantage.

The announcement from Caltrans comes following multiple projects in recent years to prevent truck off-tracking by realigning tight curves.

The opening to STAA standards will provide a new way for these industry trucks to reach the North Coast from “the rest of California and beyond.”
