Fortuna City Council to adopt cannabis ordinance at upcoming meeting

FORTUNA, CA. – Fortuna City Council is adopting their local cannabis ordinance at their upcoming meeting on Monday.

For months, council has working on the ordinance, in order to have it in place before state laws take effect come January, which will allow individuals the right to grow up to six plants.

The city has decided they will allow in-door cultivation only, except in kitchens bedrooms or bathrooms, and will require ventilation and fire extinguishers in rooms used for the purpose.

There will also be a $100 ‘Notice of Cultivation’ permit fee, and those fees will go towards offsetting some of the costs of inspections and enforcement.

Cannabis deliveries will be restricted to medical only.

The ordinance will go into effect thirty days following the upcoming adoption.

City Manager Mark Wheetley says that as changes take place in state laws, the ordinance may be adjusted accordingly.

Also during their meeting, council will be honoring the Fortuna High School’s boys and girls varsity soccer teams for their accomplishments, following the girls big win in the North Coast Section Championships.

The meeting starts Monday at 6PM in Fortuna City Hall.
