EUREKA- There’s some big changes coming to high school football on the North Coast. Starting next season, there will be a Big 4 and Little 4 Conference.

St. Bernard’s will move up to the Big 4 joining league champion Eureka, Fortuna and Del Norte. both Arcata and McKinleyville will move down to the little four joining Ferndale and Hoopa.

The decision was based on the competitive balance concept promoted by both the CIF and NCS and was unanimously approved by the HDN board of mangers.

St. Bernard’s head coach Matt Tomlin said this is something he’s wanted for a while but questions the timing.
