Humboldt County Public Defender David Marcus resigns

EUREKA – Embattled Humboldt County Public Defender David Marcus has resigned.
Supervisors Bass, Sundberg and Bohn confirmed that Marcus submitted his resignation at 9:15 Wednesday night.
The board first hired him as Public Defender in February.
Then in March, nine deputy public defenders submitted a letter to the board claiming Marcus was not willing or able to represent clients in court in addition to being unqualified for the position based on state law.
Local attorney Patrik Griego filed a lawsuit with similar claims, and a judge was set to issue a ruling in December.
Now that Marcus’ resignation has been submitted and accepted, Supervisor Rex Bohn said Human Resources is compiling a list of possible interim appointments, and he expects to discuss it at the next meeting on December 5th.
