WILLOW CREEK – A 16-year-old girl has died in a solo vehicle collision on Highway 299.
California Highway Patrol says 18-year-old Thomas Ladewig from Redding was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier east on Highway 299 Wednesday evening around 5:30.
For reasons still under investigation, Ladewig drove off the highway and down an embankment about five miles west of Willow Creek. The car struck boulders and a tree before overturning.
16-year-old Alexis Hill of Anderson, California was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She died on scene.
Ladewig and another passenger were wearing their seat belts and suffered moderate injuries. They were treated at Mad River Hospital.
CHP says DUI does not appear to be a factor in this collision and officers continue to investigate the cause.
