One dead after vehicle drives off road east of Shelter Cove

UPDATE: SHELTER COVE – One man has died in a vehicle collision in Southern Humboldt.
Shelter Cove Volunteer Fire Department says that for unknown reasons a pick up truck drove over the embankment of Chemise Mountain Road east of shelter cove around 1:00 Friday morning. Four of the seven occupants crawled 100 feet up the hillside to get help but had no cell phone service. One of the women walked a mile to Whale Gulch before she found a residence and called 911.
Shelter Cove Fire, CHP, Southern Humboldt Technical Rescue and Whale Gulch Volunteer Fire Department responded around 7:30a.m.
The male driver was found deceased in the vehicle. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
None of the truck’s occupants were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. No further injuries were reported.
