Humboldt County inmate in Work Alternative Program escapes while on the job in Ferndale

FERNDALE, CA. – A Humboldt County Correctional Facility inmate escaped in the Ferndale area Friday while taking part in a jail work program.

Ferndale High School and Ferndale Elementary School were put on lock down for several hours starting around 11AM when 28-year-old Jordan Benjamin Harris ran away from his Work Alternative Program crew near the Ferndale Fairgrounds.

Harris was last seen around 3:30 in the area of Russ Park, and deputies are searching the area with Ferndale police.

Arcata police sent a search K-9 in aid, and students were released from school.

Harris is six feet tall, 170 pounds with short brown hair, hazel eyes and a tattoo that says ‘Yurok’ on his neck.
