Man guilty of Garberville assault to serve over seven years in prison

EUREKA, CA. – A man with a criminal record who assaulted his former girlfriend in a Garberville motel is sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison.

34-year-old Joshua Brandon Marcum was accused of striking his then-girlfriend on September 2 with a shoe, forcing her into the motel bathroom, pouring food and laundry detergent on her and threatening to hurt her if she reported him to law enforcement.

Despite all this, she was able to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

It was later discovered Marcum, his friends and family members were trying to convince the woman not to testify.

Marcum was previously arrested for second-degree robbery in Alameda County.
