Providers to stay in area when Eureka Pediatrics closes December 31

EUREKA – All providers will stay in the area when Eureka Pediatrics closes in thirty days.
The office announced the plan to dissolve the practice in early November due to a variety of factors including the departure of two physicians and an inability to recruit replacements.
Since making the announcement, Open Door and Saint Joseph Hospital have been working to find a home for the remaining five providers.
Doctors Poyen and Cody chose to open a private practice called Humboldt Pediatrics Medical Corporation at their McKinleyville office while Doctor Ellis and Nurse Practitioners, Suzanne Dietz and Nina Goodwin, will join Open Door’s Eureka and McKinleyville offices.
As for the 10,000 patients who relied on their services, Doctor Poyen hopes they can follow providers to their new offices.
“Access to care in Humboldt County is very limited already. Folks with Partnership plan will be taken in at Open Door Clinic and that’s probably their best option,” Poyen said. “Doctors Cody and I will be taking all forms of commercial insurance. We’re in the process of contracting with those companies and hope to have that ball rolling before we open on January 2nd.”
