Winter warnings for motorists: visibility matters

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- It’s not uncommon for windows to fog up in Humboldt County. Condensation can build up, reducing visibility at any time. Turning on your windshield wipers and trying to power through it, experts say, is not the way to go.

“Part of getting your vehicle ready to travel in inclement weather conditions is making sure that you can see out of all of your windows and also making sure that you can see all of your mirrors.” Myles Cochrane, the Public Information Officer for Caltrans in Eureka explains.
If you can’t see out your windows, pull over. Then the best way to defog is to reduce the temperature inside your vehicle. Do not turn on the heater. Motorists should also turn on their car’s rear window defogger to clear the back window as well.
