Humboldt County Supervisors appoint interim public defender

EUREKA, CA. – Supervisors appointed an interim Public Defender on Tuesday to serve Humboldt County.

With the abrupt resignation of now former embattled Public Defender David Marcus on November 22, current Supervising Attorney of Conflict Council Kaleb Cockrum will be taking over for the time being.

Cockrum will fulfill duties of leading the Public Defender’s Office in representing clients who cannot afford private legal representation.

He says one of his first goals is to hire on staff to fill vacant positions, and he plans to apply for the position permanently as county supervisors begin their search for candidates.
