Humboldt Planning and Building requests extra work hours to process cannabis applications

EUREKA, CA. – The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors is gearing up extra help for cannabis planning, will vote on new dispatch technology for the Sheriff’s Office, and will hear more about the status of a local healthcare center – all at their upcoming meeting on Tuesday.

With legalization of recreational cannabis just around the corner, the Planning and Building Department has requested extra-help hours to continue processing cannabis applications in a timely manner.

About 2,300 applications have come in, with about 760 of those approved or closed.

Employees are expected to put in 960 extra hours to meet demand.

Plus, board members will vote to approve a request from the Sheriff’s Office for a new computer-aided dispatch and report management system.

Powered by Sun Ridge Systems, Inc., the technology will provide mobile software for patrol vehicles, data sharing with other local law enforcement agencies, and will allow the public to access mapping and crime statistics.

The cost for implementing the system comes out to about $800,000.

Supervisors also expect to hear from the CEO of the Open Door Community Health Centers, who will give an update on the local status of the centers.

The meeting begins tomorrow at 9AM in the Board Chambers of the Humboldt County Courthouse.
