Trinidad Civic Club seeks fee waivers for Lighthouse move, staff recommends against it

TRINIDAD – While Trinidad Civic Club works to move the Memorial Lighthouse before it slides in to the ocean, city staff is recommending against waiving permit fees for the project.
Trinidad City Council has expressed support for the Civic Club’s efforts to move the iconic lighthouse from its unstable perch at the end of Trinity Street.
Now that an emergency permit has been granted, the club is asking Trinidad to waive permit fees.
In a staff report, city officials expressed concern that the financial commitment would be open-ended because the work has not begun. Instead, staff recommends providing an as yet unspecified contribution to the project pending approval by the city attorney.
Council will discuss the matter at its only regular meeting in December which begins Wednesday at 6:00p.m. at Trinidad Town Hall.
