Labor union to host forum on future of in-home care for growing senior population

EUREKA, CA. – Our senior population is on the rise, and some community members are concerned local long-term care options will not meet demand.

Humboldt’s current population of over 34,000 seniors is expected to see growth, particularly between now and 2030, based on a UC Berkley study.

Members of SEIU, or Service Employees International Union, argue that if quality of home care jobs don’t improve it will be difficult to attract workers in the field moving forward to meet growing needs.

On Thursday, the public is invited to a community forum on the issue, from 12PM-2PM at the Eureka Woman’s Club, where caregivers and policy experts will be in attendance to address concerns.
