PenAir to fly out of the North Coast for the last time

DEL NORTE, CA. – Airline PenAir flies out of the North Coast for the last time, against a federal agreement.

Friday at 6:45PM, the last commercial flight Del Norte’s Border Coast Regional Airport Authority could see for months takes off to Portland, not to return.

PenAir filed for bankruptcy in august, but was under contract to continue to provide Essential Air Service to the airport until a new airline was in operation.

Now that PenAir has broken that agreement, the Del Norte airport will be without commercial flights until a new airline takes over.

PenAir says they just didn’t have the resources to stay any longer.

The airport’s General Manager Matt Leitner says they hope to have Contour Airline flights by March, but he added that and any enforcement taken against PenAir, is all in the hands of the U.S. Department of Transportation at this time.
