Man accused of shooting Humboldt County Deputy Sheriff arraigned in court

EUREKA – The man accused of shooting a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy appeared in court Wednesday. Hugo Parral-Aguirre pleaded not guilty.
He’s charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of false imprisonment, and one count of assault with a firearm on a peace officer. Those charges stem from a shooting in Ferndale early Sunday morning.
When the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office responded to Coppini Lane for a welfare check, Parral-Aguirre allegedly shot one round from a shotgun striking the deputy. Two returned fire and hit Parral-Aguirre three times.
The deputy was treated at a local hospital and released.
Parral-Aguirre’s bail was set at $1.1 million dollars.
