All CHP officers on duty for holiday weekend

ARCATA – California Highway Patrol removed nine DUI drivers from North Coast roadways over Christmas weekend’s maximum enforcement period. And they’ll be back at it again for new years.
The period begins Friday night at 6:01p.m. and continues through New Year’s Day at midnight.
29 people were killed on state roadways during this same time last year and more than 750 drivers were arrested for DUI.
CHP says that all available officers will be on duty looking for impaired drivers. They will also keep an eye out for motorists not wearing seat belts, driving while distracted or speeding.
CHP recommends designating a sober driver before you start celebrating.
And Fortuna Police will be conducting DUI patrols Sunday night beginning at 7:00p.m.
The department says that 30 percent of drivers involved in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their system at the time.
And remember, Humboldt Towing will offer you and your car a safe ride home if you’re too impaired to drive. Just call their office or visit our website to learn more.
