Reckless driver leads Fortuna police on New Year’s Day pursuit

FORTUNA, CA. – Fortuna police were led on a New Year’s Day chase, when a man sped away from a traffic stop.

Just before 5:30 Monday evening, a Fortuna officer attempted to stop a gray Mitsubishi sedan, when the driver fled.

The officer says the white male adult suspect ran stop signs and red lights and was travelling in opposing lanes during the pursuit, which led them to Highway 36.

For safety reasons, the officer stopped chasing the sedan, about five and a half miles east of Highway 101.

Officers remain on the lookout for the suspect.
