Garberville CHP uses multiple spike strips, PIT maneuver to stop fleeing SUV

GARBERVILLE, CA. – California Highway Patrol uses multiple spike strips and a PIT maneuver a stop to a fleeing driver on Highway 101.

Garberville CHP saw a white ford explorer traveling northbound past Hooker Creek Road without lights while making unsafe lane changesĀ  Tuesday evening at 5:30.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, but the driver kept traveling at normal speeds.

A spike strip was deployed at the Dyerville overlook, but still the Ford continued.

Another spike strip was laid at mile marker 45, but still the SUV kept going, at 15 MPH speeds, south of Scotia.

Finally, officers used a PIT maneuver to make the Ford abruptly turn sideways and stop.

Officers then detained the driver ā€“ who turned out to be a missing woman.

Her identity has not been released.

She was transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
