Orick man stabbed to death marking second homicide of New Year

ORICK – The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has already responded to two homicides in 2018.

A man was stabbed to death in Orick. The suspect is in custody. Just after 11:00 Thursday morning, multiple law enforcement agencies responded to Highway 101 between Dryden and Lowell roads in Orick for a reported stabbing.

California State Parks officers arrived first and found a wounded 35-year-old man lying on the road, then began CPR. Those efforts were unsuccessful and the man died from his injuries.

Witnesses saw the man suspected of the crime flee southbound on foot.
A California Highway Patrol officer located the suspect a few blocks away on Hansen Street and took him in to custody.

Law enforcement officials have not released the identities of the victim or the suspect.
Yurok Tribal Police also assisted in the response. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

Humboldt County Public Information Officer Samantha Karges said, “We are still investigating this incident. We ask for your patience as we continue to investigate and find out what exactly happened leading up to this stabbing. It’s unfortunate. This is the second homicide in Humboldt County and we’re only four days in.”
