National Bird Day: How you can get involved

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM)- National Bird Day, January 5th, was set aside originally to promote avian awareness. In other words, its a way to promote the protection and survival of birds, both captive and wild. It’s also an opportunity, according to organizations like “Born Free USA” and the “Avian Welfare Coalition” to recognize the harm and damage done by taking birds into captivity.

In Humboldt County, there are several agencies that work daily to promote healthy wild bird populations. One, is the Humboldt Wildlife Care Center.
